Among Native American peoples like the Mayas, the jaguar is revered as a chthonic deity (linked to the earth and hell) and a symbol of divine royalty. He is sometimes represented as the black sun devouring the sun at dusk, embodying initiatory death and spiritual rebirth, as well as the balance between earthly (jaguar) and celestial (eagle) forces.

Main aspects of his shamanic symbolism:

* Spiritual Guide: The jaguar allows shamans to travel between realities, acting as a guide to access hidden dimensions and spirits.

* Transformation and rebirth: Representing initiatory death and resilience, it teaches to overcome fears and evolve by embracing one’s own shadow.

* Protection and wisdom: He is considered a protector against negative energies and a repository of ancestral wisdom, associated with the Sky-God and the black sun.

* Clairvoyance: With its tasks interpreted as portals, it symbolizes the transcendental vision, capable of seeing beyond the veil of illusion and demons.

In mythology, the jaguar is often opposed to the eagle, representing the land forces against the celestial forces, and is frequently linked to the practices of metamorphosis where the shaman transforms into a feline to accomplish his missions.

The symbolism of the jaguar encompasses several key dimensions:

* Guardian of the unknown: He protects mysteries, spiritual dimensions and helps to cross fears and inner shadows.

*Transcendental vision: His ability to see in darkness symbolizes clairvoyance and the ability to see beyond the veil of illusion.

* Link with Ayahuasca: It is a central guiding spirit in ayahuasca rituals, facilitating access to states of expanded consciousness and healing.

* Strength and courage: He embodies inner power, integrity, and the invocation of his own personal power.
