It’s been a while since I wanted to write a few lines on the karma concept, wishing to simplify and to make it easy to read.

* So let’s start by the concept of MEMORY. It refers mainly to the psychic and biological faculty of the mind that allows registering, preserving and restoring information or memories. This term also applies to the posthumous recognition left by a person or an event (and in computer science, it refers to the device for storing data.)

* Next step is the concept of trans-generational memories:

These memories influence our lives, our choices, and our well-being. In this fascinating spatio-temporal field, the past dialogues with the present, revealing the hidden experiences of our ancestors. Trans-generational negative beliefs are limiting ideas and convictions that are passed down from generation to generation within families. These beliefs, deeply rooted in our unconscious, influence our behaviour, our life choices, and our vision of the world, often without us being aware of it. They can manifest in the form of thoughts like “I don’t deserve happiness,” “Money is a source of problems,” or “Relationships are always painful.” These limiting ideas often have their origin in the traumatic experiences or difficulties encountered by our ancestors.

A family history is never transmitted in the form of a perfectly filed file. It circulates piece by piece. Some are told voluntarily, others are simply observed, and some eventually

disappear.

This weird transmission is based on the family’s collective unconscious, a concept related to the theory of the collective unconscious developed by Carl Gustav Jung and applied to psycho-genealogy by Anne Ancelin.

* The concept of karma according to Rudolph Steiner:

Extracts from conferences (20th Century) about the karma.

The law of karma: the book of life’s accounts.

One can compare the law of karma with what is found in a book of accounts. On the left and right we have certain figures. When we make the total the left column and then the right column and that calculate the difference, we have the situation of the cash register. It is a law that nothing can be changed. Depending on how are the previous cases, the situation of the fund will be good or bad.

...I first need to total the two columns to see if I have cash or debts. The same goes for experiences in the book of life’s accounts.

Karma does not necessarily imply that we compensate ourselves, but it has to be compensated by an act.

* Karmic charge and karmic memory by Kalen: It is important to make the difference between a karmic charge that should be associated to a parasite memory stuck in the collective unconscious, able to involve a specific trauma (for example claustrophobia, fear, vertigo...)

The karmic memory has another effect, it lightens a special feeling or an improvised attitude facing a situation. For example, meeting someone with the sensation of having known him/her. Same with countries, places, cities, animals...

We have to see and to understand the hold of this force of memory on social life and mainly on relationships.

Individual karma must be connected to collective karma. Nations are the expression of the relationships between the souls of peoples and their karma. The individual must also help to bear the karma of humanity. (Rudolph Steiner)
